About 200 children in Fiji and 2500 children in the Pacific Islands are born with congenital heart disease (CHD) each year. CHD is one of the leading cause of neonatal deaths in these nations and there is NO ongoing pediatric cardiac services.
On April 27th 2022 the inauguration of Fiji’s first children’s hospital Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility focusing on pediatric cardiology, carrying out life-saving surgeries on children born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) was opened by the Hon. Prime Minister of Fiji.
Health In Kind has partnered with Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital to collaborate and assist with the initial development and the ongoing running of this one of a kind Hospital in Fiji which will provide FREE life saving surgeries and treatment to the children of the South Pacific.
The Super Specialty Children’s Hospital, built at a cost of A$16 million ($25 million FJD) will change the medical landscape of Fiji and the Pacific region in the field of pediatric cardiac care. Currently, there are no facilities anywhere in the Pacific Islands for surgery and treatment of children suffering from CHD, and it is simply unaffordable for families to take their children overseas. Consequently, a number of children have tragically passed away without access to this treatment.
With the support of the Government, like minded individuals and organisations, collective we can make a difference to families.
